Stars are people like us, only a lot more famous and more prosperous. However, one significant similarity is that they also have tax problems as we do.
With that in mind, we thought about giving you a list of the most exciting cases of celebrities with tax issues, the avoidance of taxes, etc.
The famous model and ex-wife of Billy Joel, Christie was hit with a tax lien back in 2011. She had to pay half a million dollars on her 30 million dollar mansion. The news was that Christie never tried to conceal taxes and that this was a result of an error. Christie had no problem paying what she owed back to the government.
Remember Chris Tucker? He was once one of the highest-paying actors in Hollywood, but now he’s trying to trick the IRS. Or so the IRS thought when they charged him with a $2.5 million tax lien. They managed to settle the dispute outside of court.
One of the famous Baldwin brothers, Stephen, pleaded guilty in 2013 for repeated failure to file his income taxes. He paid over $300,000 to the government, and he even faced a sentence of up to four years in prison.
Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino, whom you undoubtedly know from Jersey Shore pleaded guilty in 2018 to tax evasion and for concealing incomes from 2011. He was prosecuted together with his brother Marc.
They avoided taxes by making cash deposits which never surpassed the amounts that trigger federal reporting. They also tried to file fake tax returns by classifying a luxury car and clothing as ‘business expenses.’
Lindsay Lohan had a lot of other problems in the past, but you probably didn’t know that she had issues with the IRS as well. They froze her assets, and she reportedly paid part of her dues with a $100,000 check she got from Charlie Sheen. She paid over $200,000 in back taxes, but it remains unclear if she still owes something to the government.
The singer and two-time Grammy winner Marc Anthony had repeated troubles with the IRS. He failed to file returns for the period of 2000 to 2004 and had to pay a bill of $2.5 million in back taxes, penalties, and interest.
Furthermore, in 2010, he reportedly had to pay a tax lien for $1.6 million on his property in Brookville.
The famous actor owed a total of $14 million to the IRS because he bought several reptiles, a pyramid tombstone for himself in New Orleans, and a castle in England. He paid more than $6 million in 2012, which certainly paints a picture for his need to accept every possible role in the recent decade.
The former Baywatch star, Pamela Anderson is a very known face among tax evaders. She was slapped with a tax lien at least two times, and it’s currently unknown how much she owes the government.
Back in the 1990s and 2000s, Martha Stewart had big troubles with the IRS. She had to pay almost a quarter of a million in property taxes but also sentenced to five months of house arrest. All of that happened because she was persistent in thinking that she didn’t have to pay taxes on her properties that were under major renovations, as she didn’t live in them during that time.
